On Sunday 10 November 2024 at 3:00pm, VILLA DIANELLA will open its doors to welcome Francesca D’Orazio, the renowned food writer and expert in cooking and the art of hosting, who will present her book “APPUNTI D’INVERNO” (Winter Notes).
But above all it will be an opportunity to talk with the host Veronica Passerin d’Entrèves and share with those present their secrets and tips for welcoming guests in the best possible way as the winter season approaches.
Originally from Abruzzo, but a true globe-trotter, Francesca D’Orazio has lived for many years between Rome, Singapore and New York.
And it was in Singapore, in 1996, that she began teaching “Italian cuisine”, telling the story of Italy and its traditions.
But that’s not all: through courses and study, she developed what began as a passion, specialising in entertaining at home, the Art of Hosting. In a short time she organised courses in Entertaining Italian style, passing on the pleasure of welcoming guests in harmony and with good taste, always putting Italy’s heritage centre stage — its biodiversity and family recipe books, which form our country’s great culinary tradition.
Cooking made of simple, nourishing and balanced dishes – most often prepared quickly (but never banal) – starting from careful shopping mindful of the local area and the seasons, are the fundamental elements for Francesca D’Orazio, elements she shares with Veronica Passerin d’Entrèves, and which gave her the idea of inviting her to Villa Dianella and organising a talk sharing tricks and strategies for inviting friends and family over on cold, slow days, guided by the rhythm of nature, to rediscover the warmth of home with simple cooking that respects the seasons and pays attention to sustainability.
At the heart of all Dianella’s production, in fact – whether wine, oil or the dishes served at Dianella’s restaurants (from the Magazzino bistrot to the restaurants inside the Villa) – there is absolute quality, respect for the seasons, a selection of Tuscan and organic products and respect for tradition.
All the menu offerings vary according to the season, and the ingredients used in every preparation are either produced in-house or sourced from the best farms and estates in the local area.
On Sunday 10 November 2024 at Villa Dianella, Abruzzo will meet Tuscany thanks to two women who chose to turn their passion into a profession, both establishing themselves through commitment and dedication.
Veronica Passerin d’Entrèves and Francesca D’Orazio look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 10 November 2024 at 3:00pm at Villa Dianella.
At the end of the event, guests will be able to chat with the author and the host over a glass of Dianella’s malvasia – DOLCI RICORDI – and cantucci biscuits.

About DOLCI RICORDI
Dolci Ricordi is Dianella’s malvasia. A late-harvest Malvasia Lunga del Chianti, a soft, enveloping wine whose sugar content is perfectly supported and balanced by pronounced acidity.
TASTING NOTES
A golden-yellow colour with amber highlights. On the nose it’s intense, with aromas of candied apricot, fig and dates over an ethereal base of dried fruit and sweet spices. On the palate it’s soft and enveloping thanks to its perfectly balanced sugar content, supported by excellent acidity. Well-structured, with a long, complex finish.
Appunti d’Inverno (Winter Notes) by Francesca D’Orazio
Stories, recipes, table settings and plenty of valuable tips for making the most of the winter season, guided by Nature, and enjoying the warmth of home.
A new collection of Notes to welcome the first cold days, enjoy steaming soups or a cup of tea with a slice of apple cake, enriched with caramel sauce.
After Appunti di Natale (Christmas Notes) and Appunti d’Estate (Summer Notes), Francesca D’Orazio dedicates these notes to the season we spend mostly at home, to keep us warm and fill the greyest days with colour.
Her cooking is simple and timeless, tied as it is to tradition and the local area, respectful of the seasons, attentive to ingredient quality and to avoiding waste.
It’s cooking from the heart, told through a steaming plate of scrippelle in broth or memories of chitarra pasta with Sunday ragù; it’s the cooking of everyday life, made of simple flavours like pasta with cauliflower or tomato meatballs. It’s also the cooking of celebrations, marked by a stuffed turkey or a chocolate and raspberry tart.
Her love of Nature is the inspiring muse behind her vegetable-based dishes and the compositions that decorate the table, but above all behind the choices made in everyday life to respect the ecosystem and ensure its sustainability, with a close eye on local produce.
A book full of advice for getting your hands into the dough, or for learning to manage the weekly shop and organise time in the kitchen more effectively, which translates into saving both energy and money.
Plenty of notes to consult in search of ideas for special moments, for ourselves and our loved ones.
